THE HOUSE

Casa de Vilela, built in 1731, was the setting for notable historical events, such as the wedding of D. Diogo de Sousa, 1st Count of Rio Pardo and 49th Viceroy and Captain-General of India. After the creation of the municipality of São Tomé de Negrelos in 1836, Casa de Vilela became the local administrative headquarters and hosted the first sessions of the Town Hall in 1837.

The property remained in the possession of the Sá Brandão Freire family from the early 17th century until 1895, when it was acquired by the current owners.

For years, it served as the family’s vacation residence and has recently undergone a thorough renovation, equipping it with modern features while preserving its original architecture.
